Road Trip to Somerset, Devon and East Cornwall / UK Campsite Finder

The summer of last year was an exciting time for UK Campsite Finder. It was the start of many summer travels around the Country.

We started at the Beautiful Devon Coast where there is an abundance of Camping, Caravan Parks and Holiday Parks scatter across the stunning coastline.
All were offering that special something to their visitors.

Whether it be a quiet simple peaceful campsite or a more lively Family Holiday Park there was a holiday to qualify every ones personal preference.

We started our road trip at Woolacombe and stayed at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Village.

The Holiday Village offered some spectacular views.

The Facilities are excellent cleaned toilets and showers with separate cubicles for showers with a lockable door, even a Steam Room.
The Camping pitches were a bit windy but we found one that was a little more sheltered.
Woolacombe Holiday Village caters mainly for Families and has plenty to do on site.
Entertainment, Games Room etc
It was an excellent location to travel around Woolacombe though.

The beach was clean and offered a fantastic surf for Body Boarding and Surfing.

Then onwards to Ilfracombe in North Devon

The views here are amazing and there are some really lovely Caravan Parks and Holiday Villages to stay at. Ilfracombe is a bit run down but its defintly worth a visit.

Our next stop was Glastonbury in Somerset. We visited a stunning Touring Park called The Old Oaks Touring Park (Adults Only). The layout of this Park is beautiful its spotlessly clean and each pitch has its own area surrounded by shrubbery and exotic plants. The host a large fishing Lake. So why not try your hand at a bit of Carp fishing also hosting Fishing Competitions.
Toilets were lovely and clean and even had hairdryers to add that special home from home touch.

The staff were lovely and James the owner is very helpful and obliging.
If your looking for a peaceful adult only Park with no children running around or like a spot of fishing this is a must to visit.

I also stumbled upon a Holiday Park called Fairways International Holiday Park in Bridgwater, Somerset.
I met the Park owner called Clive who gave me the wonderful idea of the Camping Membership Discount Card. He was a Park member of the European Camping Discount Card and suggested that it would be a good idea to set one up for the UK.

The Park shop was stacked with things that you would need on your stay and was an Aladdin's Cave of goodies.
The Park itself was spotlessly clean and tidy and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful holiday.
Dogs are welcomed at the Park and there is separate area for taking them for their walks.
Plenty of room for kids to play.
Also Baby changing area and disabled facilities.
This is exceptionally lovely Park, with very friendly owners.

Cornwall East was the first part of Cornwall we visited staying at Trennance Holiday Park.
Great Park plenty of camping pitches and also offers holiday homes at reasonable rates.
Only 10 min walk to Newquay Town so great for those clubbers. There are no group bookings excepted but couples are.

Newquay has many surfing events on the famous Fistral Beach and has wonderful surf for the average surfer or body boarder. It is manned throughout the summer by life guards but the rip is quite dangerous so always bathe where it is specified. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year but must be on a lead.

East Cornwall is a beautiful place to visit and there are numerous beaches and coves to set off too.

I lived in Camelford for 8 mths. The beach I found to be the best was a small bay called Trebarwith which is on the way to Tintagel. The turning can be easily missed though so keep a good eye out on the left just past the slate hills.

It is mainly rock when the tide is in but when the tide goes out there is a stunning beach.
I myself prefer the rocks to sunbathe on as they are flat and warm.
Sunsets here are spectacular.

Bude is another tourist trap and has the famous Widemouth Bay Beach second to none for surfing.

Here we visited a Holiday Park called Wooda Holiday Park which is in a small village on the outskirts of Bude called Ploughill an excellent site with wonderful amenities.
Take alook at the website to see their full featured listing with pictures and text.

  1. Nice blog. I love camping and we often have camping during our Newquay holidays. You've got really nice photos. I hope I could visit those places too.
