Camping in Wales The Gower Peninsula, Port Eynon

May 1st Bank Holiday Weekend at the Gower Peninsula, Port Eynon, West Glamorgan.
We are on our trips again around England and Wales 1st stop was the The Gower Peninsula with its breathtaking views and scenery.
The Gower Coast is just a few miles away from Swansea. It is well known for its outstanding natural beauty and offers excellent walking and surfing around the coastline. There is a series of Bays and Rocky Cove they are called Langland,Three Cliffs and a few larger
beaches like Port Eynon, Rosili and Oxwich Bay. On the North side of the Peninsula there are fewer beaches this section of the Coast includes the famous Cockle - Beds of Penclawdd.

We stayed at a larger Bay at Port Eynon and pitched a tent for 3 days on a Park called Carreglwyd Camping and Caravan Park.

It is situated pretty much on the beach bar a fence. There are 300 pitches available to rent and you choose were you pitch as the pitches are not marked out as long as a 3 Metre gap is left between Tents and Caravans.

The toilets were clean and tidy and the free showers were lovely and hot. Also included in the toilets are hairdryers, which are slightly slow but hey who's rushing were on holiday.

There were 2 negatives that are not really negatives and that was the toilet cubicles are very cramped and the showers didn't have curtains which meant the floor ended up wet. So if you drop your clothes on the floor you have wet clothes to change in.

I just got changed in the wash area much easier.

The on - site Shop is well stocked and has all those essential forgotten items ( tin opener).

There is a wide selection of sweets, meals and drinks and also fresh bread rolls, sausages and burgers for the barbecue.

The staff are more than friendly and very cheery.
We have a disabled son with Muscular Dystrophy so need some disabled facilities which are on site.

Having the beach so close was also a bonus as we had no need to pack up the car with wheel chairs beach bags wind breakers surf boards etc. Just simply find a spot on the dunes and walk about 3 mins back.

Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the main part of the beach in the summer months from May 1st - Sept as we were duly reminded by the life guards but they are allowed on the sand dunes which I myself prefer ...no sand in the shoes.

There is a wonderful shop facing the Port Eynon Bay which sells to die for whippy ice-creams.

Altogether a wonderful Bank holiday Break and we will most definatley be stopping over at Carreglwyd Camping and Caravan Park in the very near future.

  4. The Island or Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland are on my wish list for now. When time allows of course.I've been camping all my life and for me, that's the only way to experience the beauty of nature this world has to offer.
