Camping and Caravanning in Cornwall West

We visited and stayed at Porthtowan in Cornwall West in July.

What a beautiful part of Cornwall, surrounded by beaches and coves and very central for travelling around North and south Cornwall.

I have added to the blog all the Dog Friendly Beaches in the area as having a dog myself was unsure which beaches I could use I hope this is helpful to my readers.

Porthtowan is a picturesque village with beautiful beaches, which stretches as far as St Agnes at low tide, great for surfing or sunbathing, well when the sun shows its face.

This village was mainly a mining village just under a century ago with the most notable mine called The Wheal Towan Copper Mine.

To reach the beach you will have to drive down a very deep sloping hill. There is a fantastic lookout point on the other side where you can sit in your car or on a deck chair and look out to the beautiful rolling Cornish sea.

Porthtowan Tourist Park is situated close to the the Village. It offers excellent amenities having free hot showers, laundry facilities, and basic shop, a small games room for the kids but an excellent play area with a wonderful climbing frame and a ball park area.

For you like me who love to take our dog along they offer an excellent paddock for giving your dog quick relief for morning and night.
I myself took Charlie for a short 2 mile circuit behind the site, where there was little traffic and was introduced to cows and horses for the first time. A bit of a culture shock for him, I must say.

Oh and for you laptop freaks like me only dongle we found to work is vodofone but worked extremely well I must say.
Please take a look at the short video on the Video Reviews section of the blog.

Perranporth was a tin mining town but now it is full of the Hubble bubble of holiday makers.

There are a few shops offering the usual seaside gifts a wonderful chip shop on the water front. Car Parking is a bit difficult in Peak seasons so get there early.

The beach is huge when the tide is out great for Charlie, not so good for me as he just wanted to run. As you can tell its dog friendly which is great. He came along boarding with me.

Although he was not too sure of the waves to start with.
For you adventurous kids this is a haven of fun offering rock pools and caves to explore.
Perranporth also host the Lowender Peran Folk festival every October.
To the North of the Village is the Pirran Round which was an Iron Age Hill Camp.
It is thought that the amphitheatre was used for games and plays.
Further around is the Giant Millenium Sundial definitely worth a look.

Oh My Gosh I nearly forgot to tell you about the pub just round the bend of Portreath wish I could remember the name its hidden on a shap bend it dosn't look much but the food is out of this world. As soon as I remember the name I will add it. Very reasonable too.

We took a visit to the very popular Tollgate Farm Caravan and Camping Park at Perranporth, where I met Tony and a lovely family who kindly let us photograph them on a huge family holiday.
The park is wonderful you get a feeling of fun the moment you arrive. It is situated close to the beach and even has its own Small Farm for the kids to play with the animals. We loved this park and its a must visit. Please view Tollgates video on the Video review section on the blog.

Now to my favourite place, in the sunshine I must add.

Marazion village opposite the beautiful St Michael's Mount. This village took my breath away its is quaint and pretty and has the most amazing views to St Michael's Mount. At low tide you can walk over to the island but don't stay too long as when the sea comes in you could find yourself marooned on an island.

Close by there is a wonderful camping Park called Wheal Rodney Holiday Park, it offers accomadation for camping, caravan and motorhome touring and holiday lets.

Excellent facilities including an Indoor Swimming Pool. Hot power showers and a small site shop.
Wheal Rodney have an amazing video on http://www.ukcampsitefinder.co.uk/ which also tells you about St Micheal's Mount and the village of Marazion.

Then onto St Ives what can I say that the pictures dont it is a paradise well the beach is.
The village is very hilly and paths are narrow but I myself love this.
My sister not so I thought by her red cheeks and gasping for breath.

WATCH OUT for the seagulls. I have been there twice now and was dive bombed for a chip which the cheeky blighter took out of my mouth and this time I had my beautiful Cornish icecream whipped out of my hand not before pushing my head out of its way with its body. A bit of a shock I can tell you and very dispointing considering I had just spent £2.50 on and icecream with a flake that I was looking forward to eating.

A must though is the lovely old fashioned Fudge Shop on the harbour look out for it. Very cheap and the fudge is delightful.
Anyway I will close this section now and I hope you enjoyed my travels.
