Fortnights falter as Britons favour flash breaks
More Britons are swapping fortnight holidays for one or more "flash breaks" this year, according to major parks operator Park Holidays UK.
The strength of the new trend has prompted the group to convert many of its two-week stays to three, four and seven day breaks during this summer's school holidays.
"Quickie breaks, often booked at the last minute, have been gaining ground in recent years - but this season the family fortnight really is being kicked into touch," says director Tony Clish.
"For that reason, we have decided to convert thousands of longer holidays into bite-size chunks which are more easily affordable and can be taken up instantly by customers," he added.
To reflect the changes, Park Holidays UK has completely revised its website to put the emphasis on short breaks during six-week school holidays (www.ParkHolidaysUK.com)
It now features three and four day breaks from just £149.00 and week-long stays from £298.00.
The cost includes family accommodation in a caravan holiday home, use of all the park's sports and leisure facilities, and free passes to the professional nightly entertainment.
"Having plenty to do just yards from your front door is the key to a successful flash-break," said Tony.
"Youngsters, if they are old enough, can go off and enjoy all their favourite activities, and parents can concentrate on relaxing without having to chauffeur everyone around," he commented.
Park Holidays UK has 22 seaside parks in Southern England, from Devon to Suffolk - and new short-break offers are being added hourly to the thousands already posted on its website.
The company also has a help-line (0845 815 9775) to give advice on locations and current deals.

Environmentally aware campers can now enjoy innovative eco-friendly facilities at the Cheddar Camping and Caravanning Club Site in Somerset.
Franchisees, Alan and Kate Sefton, have invested around £80,000 into developing a new facilities block to create an environmentally friendly haven for campers.
The new revolutionary facilities include: state of the art showers which mix air with water to reduce energy consumption, waterless urinals that break-down waste using bio-friendly products plus a ventilation system which removes 80 percent of heat from extracted air, returns it to the washrooms and removes excess humidity.
Alan was enthusiastic about the Site’s latest developments. He said: “We are committed to providing an eco-friendly setting to help contribute towards the preservation of our planet.
“Our green facilities have been designed to the highest standard, ensuring all our campers have an enjoyable stay."
The Club has a number of award-winning sites including, Eskdale, Teversal and Gullivers Milton Keynes, that have all developed a variety of ecological facilities.
As a further reflection of The Club’s commitment to preserving the environment, 56 of its Club Sites have been awarded David Bellamy Gold Awards.
The Sites were recognised after the Holiday Site Managers, Assistants and franchisees highlighted to assessors the great lengths that they undertake to help protect and enhance Britain’s natural environment.

RIVER CENTRE LINKS LUXURY LOOS WITH LATRINE IN AFRICA
To mark the major eco-makeover the Holiday Park and Marina in the southern Norfolk Broads is the first in Britain to become a toilet twinner as part of a worldwide campaign by the UK charity CORD to highlight the lack of sanitation across the globe.Toilet Twinning is seen as a potty idea with a deadly serious message. The UN say 2.6 billion people do not have access to a toilet- that’s 40% of the world population -and that a child dies every 17 seconds from diarrhoeal diseases.
A twinning certificate picturing their twin latrine in the remote Giharo Province, Burundi will hang in the five star facilities, which provides 10 individual wash rooms featuring under floor heating, a ‘green’ water heating system, hand and hair dryers and seats. One is adapted for the needs of the disabled and the two larger family rooms include baby changing & toddler equipment. Individual heat recovery units are fitted to each room so that stale air is removed without wasting the warmth.
‘The new facilities are so popular that one family even cancelled their summer camping holiday in Devon to re-book at Waveney, purely on the strength of the showers,’ said Director Ruth Knight.
‘That’s why we are delighted to twin our state of the art facilities with a latrine for a family in Burundi; it’s a real reminder of how fortunate we are here in the UK and how essential basic toilets are,’ she added.
Visitors will be able to track down their twin via its map references and spot it on Google earth. Toilet Twinning has so far attracted twinners from 12 countries and is endorsed by CORD Ambassador singer Corinne Bailey Rae who has seen for herself the desperate need for better sanitation across Africa and the developing world.
Waveney River Centre won the coveted David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award in 2009 and was also a finalist for the EDP Sustainable Tourism Award. The site, in the Norfolk Broads National Park, features an abundance of wildlife with touring & camping pitches overlook the marina, River Waveney and the Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve.

NEW WEEK AHEAD WEATHER IS GREAT
Well is Tuesday 29th and have opera blaring in the garden its a shame but I hate opera any other music but not opera.
England were defeated and embarrased against Germany in the World Cup and Charlie was distraught.
But hey ho at least we can all get back to work now and my partner has just saved himself £40 as he had told his son that he would buy a new England shirt for him if we beat Germany so there is a bright side to it all.
I would like to say a massive thank you to Fairways International in Somerset for renewing again for the second year and also Hillside Camping in the New Forest Dorset. As well as many others.
I am busy sending out mail shots to the large Holiday Park Groups as I feel they would benifit from being seen on http://www.ukcampsitefinder.co.uk/.
I have driven to the airport and helped some guys start their van so far this week has been fruitful it seems as though its a favour week for helping people in distress.

Would You Like to Take Part In A Documentary On BBC2
This is the Flyer Sent to UK Campsite Finder
Would you and your Family be interested in taking part in a documentary we are making for BBC2, about British families going on holiday. The film will be produced by the BBC's Documentaries unit, but it will feature footage shot by the children of the featured families, and it will be told as far as possible from the children's point of view.
The Documentaries unit makes a range of different programmes, from Louis Theroux to the acclaimed BBC1 documentary about injured soldiers, WOUNDED. As part of our remit, we produce an award-winning strand of documentaries for BBC2 called WONDERLAND which features different aspects of contemporary British life, and this particular 60-minute documentary would be on television later this year as part of the Wonderland strand.
Over the last year, the number of holiday trips taken in the UK has risen by seven million. We want our documentary to reflect this growing trend. We are looking for families who are going on holiday in the UK in July or August, but we would not want to film people on the holiday itself. Instead we will film families travelling to and from their holiday destination and then we will lend the family a small camera that they will use to film their holiday. We would like to see the holiday experience through the eyes of one, or perhaps two, children in the family so we will teach the children how to use a small video camera for them to make a short video diary of their holiday. Some of these diaries will then hopefully appear in the completed film on BBC2.
At this early stage we are making contact with as many families as possible, even though in the final film we will have to narrow down the number of families who take part. It would be great to talk with you about the film we would like to make, and how we would make it, as well as finding out more about you and your holiday plans. We hope taking part in the film will be a lot of fun, and will afford us a warm, engaging and entertaining glimpse into modern-day Britain. At this stage there would be no commitment at all to taking part.
